Any notion that former CNN star Chris Cuomo would be quietly stepping into the shadows pursuing his contentious departure from CNN has now been extinguished. Deadline studies that Cuomo has filed an arbitration demand from customers trying to get more than $125 million in damages to his occupation and to his standing – much more than double what he was formerly described to be wanting to get.
Cuomo’s lawful filing would not mince words and phrases. “As a outcome of Turner’s indefensible alternative to unceremoniously fireplace him, Cuomo has been broken in countless ways,” it states. It goes on:
“Cuomo has had his journalistic integrity unjustifiably smeared, generating it difficult if not unattainable for Cuomo to come across similar operate in the potential and damaging him in quantities exceeding $125 million, which involves not only the remaining wage owed under the Settlement, but potential wages misplaced as a result of CNN’s efforts to wipe out his status in violation of the Agreement…Cuomo now seeks to get better the comprehensive evaluate of his damages from Turner and CNN.”
That $125 million figure is a great deal much more than what was still left on Cuomo’s agreement when he was permit go. He would like that as well, and calculates it at about $15 million. That remaining $110 million is chalked up underneath “consequential damages” of at minimum that amount of money.
Cuomo is accusing CNN of “smearing” him and performing untold problems to his reputation as a journalist and as a community determine. He’s also indicating that they broke a clause in his agreement stipulating that the community “make reasonable initiatives to instruct its staff not to make any intentionally disparaging comments with regards to [Cuomo] in the context of [Cuomo’s] small business and professional functions.”
That certainly did not happen, as Cuomo was accused by different links in the CNN chain of lying to his bosses and his coworkers about the nature of his help for his brother Andrew Cuomo, who was at the time the governor of New York and going through sexual misconduct allegations. Cuomo’s lawyer Bryan Freedman spoke to Deadline about the scenario, and according to him that simply wasn’t correct. “It really should by now be clear that Chris Cuomo did not lie to CNN about assisting his brother,” he said.
Freedman went on:
“In actuality, as the minimal details released from WarnerMedia’s investigation helps make obvious, CNN’s greatest-stage executives not only knew about Chris’s involvement in supporting his brother but also actively assisted the Governor, the two via Chris and specifically themselves…As CNN has admitted, community standards were adjusted in a calculated determination to boost scores. When these tactics ended up referred to as into question, Chris was produced the scapegoat.”
Cuomo is formally accusing CNN of wrongful termination as perfectly as violating that non-disparagement clause, and he desires not only at least $125 million but a “full apology” as very well. And if they won’t be able to settle up in a closed-door arbitration, it might end up in open courtroom – a thing that might make this previously messy dispute even messier.
