A Look At Crete Carrier AND The Variety Of Truck Driver Jobs They Offer

Truck drivers looking to make a positive career move want to work for stable trucking companies which are committed to its drivers. The trucking industry took a hit from 2007 through 2010 due a number of reasons. One reason was the downturn in the economy which decreased demand for trucking services. Other reasons were the increase in fuel costs and the decrease in the availability of credit. For these reasons over 8,500 trucking companies went out of business. This caused over 325,000 trucks to be taken off the road and the loss of many truck driver jobs.

Many trucking companies went bankrupt. Arrow Trucking Company of Tulsa, Ok. was one of the large trucking companies which went bankrupt. The company filed its bankruptcy petition on Jan. 8, 2010. Company executives told employees to go home and abruptly closed the doors on Dec. 22, 2009. Hundreds of Arrow drivers and their freight were literally stranded around the country three days before Christmas because Arrow’s lender, Transportation Alliance Bank of Ogden, Utah had canceled the company’s fuel credit cards. It was eventually determined that Arrow’s assets were $8.55 million and liabilities of $98.97 million.

Contrast this situation with Crete Carrier. This company is a major trucking company which is dedicated to providing good quality service to its customers. In addition to this they are both a financially stable company and a debt free company. They are generous with salaries and generous with benefits as well. Drivers wanting to have good solid truck driver jobs and stable careers might want to work for a financially stable company like this which values its employees and customers. The Kellogg Company named Crete Carrier as the recipient of their 2011 National Carrier of the Year Award.

Truck drivers have different needs and often consider if the trucking company they are hired to work for will enable them to meet those needs. Some drivers like to haul refrigerated loads. Others like to haul flatbed loads. Some drivers have family or other commitments which require them to be home on week-ends. Crete Carrier has options for whatever type of trailers truck drivers want to haul as well as options for accommodating drivers requested home time. They are able to provide a variety of opportunities for truck drivers.

Crete Carrier Corporation is headquartered in Lincoln, Nebraska and is one of the largest privately held truckload carriers in the United States. The Crete Carrier “family” is comprised of Crete Carrier, Hunt Transportation of Omaha, Nebraska and Shaffer Trucking of New Kingstown, Pennsylvania. Although these companies were successful individually, through their joint alliances they have become stronger and more profitable. It is through their combined forces that they are able to serve more clients. Crete Carrier handles the nationwide dry van division. Hunt Transportation handles the flatbed division. This includes curtain van, single dropped, detached and stretch-flat type trailers. Shaffer Trucking handles the refrigerated division.

One of Crete Carriers highest priorities is safety. They want their drivers to be safe and the loads to be delivered safely. They consider their employees to be their best assets and treat them accordingly. In return Crete Carrier is rewarded with a stable work force with a very low turnover rate.
